Volvo, impressively, achieved healthy growth in each and every one of its sales regions, easily making it
the fastest growing luxury car company in the world. Volvo sales reached
nearly 550,000 worldwide, which is greater than a 20 % increase over EOY numbers from
2010.
This puts Volvo in an excellent position to continue their growth and profitability in the future. Volvo has
even gone so far as to set their 2020 global sales goal at 800,000 units, which would be an impressive 45% gain compared to results in 2011. To achieve this feat, will be largely contingent on their ability to
harness the vast growth potential in China, which all automakers are currently aiming for.
Volvo announced in 2011 a new program called Scalable Product Architecture (SAP). Along with a new powerplant and Electric Vehicle strategy, SAP promises new breakthrough technologies that will push Volvo into the leading position for fuel economy.
On a side note, Volvo has made the time in 2011 to infuse their brand with a more personal touch, with their new tagline "Designed Around You". Simply put, Volvo is trying to better understand human needs and desires, so they can create a system that all luxury drivers dream of, without the overly-complicated frills.
Taking a look at the development of the Volvo brand in 2011, we highlight the following points:
- Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid
- Volvo C30 Electric
- Volvo S60 DRIVe
- Volvo V60 DRIVe
- Start/stop technology
