Volvo May Build Small Entry Level Car

Volvo is hoping to knock the socks off customers looking for smaller, economy-style vehicles. And maybe take on the small car competition as well. It plans to offer a small competitor as part of a plan to expand the automaker's line up.

Speaking in London last week, Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby said the next generation of the entry-level Volvo "will be a derivation of the C30, a Golf competitor," according to the Web site www.autocar.co.uk.

He also stated Volvo's brand positioning would shift toward "functionality and Scandinavian elegance" and away from sportiness, according to the…

2011 Volvo S60 T6

The updated Volvo S60 for 2011 adds more curves than any previous Volvo model to its look, along with a powerful engine. The T6 adds even more features and just a tad more horsepower to the mix.

The T6 contains a Turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 with a production of 281 horses at 325 lb-ft of torque. The handling on Volvo's S60 is smooth and responsive, braking is film and strong. Volvo has implemented their new intuitive braking system, which will bring the car to a halt automatically at low speeds (under 25 - 30 mph, as tested). This will…

Volvo C30 Electric

Volvo has been working on a variety of new technology for their vehicles over the past several years. From an auto-stop accident preventions system in their S60, to a C30 electric car, Volvo want to keep you green and safe.

Volvo has announced plans to deliver the first run of C30 DRIVe EV's (electric vehicles) to customers later this fall.

While the company is staying mum on specifics, motivation is provided by a lithium-ion battery which sends power to an electric motor. This enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 10.5 seconds and it can hit a top speed of 81 mph.

Despite having a range of just 93 miles, Volvo says 90 percent of European commuters travel less than that on a daily basis. The average American commuter travels around 40 miles one way.

While there are only plans to build 250 vehicles, Volvo's director of the Special Vehicles division, Lennart Stegland, said "We have had a very positive response from the market so far. If the demand continues to be high, we will of course expand our production series."
